declarative sentence

declarative sentence (fortellende setning): a type of sentence (or, strictly speaking, a clause) in which the word order (in English) is S-V-X, with X symbolizing any element that may follow the verb (object/predicative/obligatory adverbial). The typical communicative function of a declarative sentence is a statement, although declaratives may also have other functions. E.g. John pressed the button. She is at school.
