echo question

echo question (ekkospørsmål): a communicative function, typically spoken with high rise intonation, and typically realized by an interrogative sentence or a fragment. An echo-question is used to ask someone to repeat (a part of) what they just said. In the following example, B's utterance is an echo-question. A: I'm going to France this summer. B: Where (are you going)? A: France (I said).
