yes-no-question

yes/no-question (ja/nei-spørsmål / spørsmål uten spørreord): a communicative function; a question to which the expected answer is yes or no. In other words, the speaker wants the hearer to say whether something is true or false. E.g. Are you a student? Have you been to Greece? Do you know your next-door neighbour? A yes/no-question is typically realized by a yes/no-interrogative, but can also be realized by a declarative sentence, spoken with a rising intonation. E.g. So, you're a student of English? A declarative accompanied by a tag (with rising intonation) also typically functions as a yes/no question. E.g. You’re fond of grammar, aren't you?
